Macondo's First Annual Carnaval de Barranquilla Celebration! Everyone has heard of Carnaval in Rio...well the 2nd largest carnival celebration in Latin America occurs in Barranquilla, Colombia. Last February we threw our 1st annual Carnaval de Barranquilla in Chicago celebration in order to give Colombian carnival the respect it deserves.
The event featured live vallenato by Juvenato, the Midwest's only Vallenato group, and Colombian Salsa, Cumbia, Champeta and Carnaval music with DJ Leo Suarez of Macondo Music and "Chicago is the World" global radio program.
About The Carnaval:
El Carnaval de Barranquilla dates back to the 19th century and was proclaimed by UNESCO, in November 2003, as one of the Masterpieces of the Oral and Intangible Heritage of Humanity.
Apart from being one of Colombia's most important stages for traditional cultural performance and preservation, it's a party that completely paralyzes the Caribbean city of Barranquilla for not days, but weeks.
Mark your calendars for Macondo's 2nd Annual Carnaval de Barranquilla party: March 12, 2011 featuring live Vallenato w/ Juvenato and Grupo Rebolu, the official band of Macondo direct from NYC!
